Black Ice has been a long awaited album, it was 8 years
prior to Black Ice that ACDC made Stiff Upper Lip.
Track 1, Rock N roll Train was released as a single nearly 2
months before the Black Ice album was released. The track does
have a bit of a commercial sound to it but it was great to hear
something new from ACDC and most ACDC fans ate that song up for
a while. Maybe this is why it sounds so commercial to me.
Skies On Fire has a wet saturated vintage sound, very nice
actually. Almost sounds too nice for ACDC but you definitely
know it's ACDC. This song kind of sets the mood for what's
coming next.
Big Jack has a heavier groove going on but there's that nice
vintage tone going on again. You can hear the drums a little
more but even they are tame. The guitar riff is bluesy and
groovy. Brian sounds very on this track and throughout the
entire album for that fact. Love the vintage tone going on here.
Anything Goes brings us back to a more 70's feel. The song
totally reminds me of Bruce Springsteen. Makes me wonder a
little, but Black Ice was produced by Springsteen's producer.
Very 70's ish tone and feel.
War Machine brings us back to a more hard rocking anthem tone.
This is more of what you would expect from ACDC but it still has
a bit of that vintage tone. I believe it's about the state
of the world and a certain country that is currently viewed as a
war machine. Love the dark tone and this song definitely
contrasts nicely with the previous tune. This song is modern
ACDC rocking out.Smash N Grab brings back a bit more of the
vintage 70's feel. It's premium stuff too, the guitar work is
exquisite. Sounds crazy to say about Angus but just listen to
that stuff. Pure candy for the ears baby. I really like the
lyrics. The kind of compliment the War machine theme going on.
Spoilin For A Fight kicks off with a nice beat a funky groovin
guitar lick and a basic riff. The song kind of works around that
lick and it works out great. Nice driving tune, gives you that
do something feel.
Wheels sounds so 70's and and Brian really sounds premium on
this one. Very vintage and top quality.
Decibel immediately sounds like ZZ Top to me. Then it starts
rockin a little harder and it blends into something very unique
sounding. I imagine Angus and Malcolm with long ass beards when
I hear this one.
Stormy May Day starts out with a lick that Says old school Angus
all over it. Like something that we might hear on Let There Be
Rock. Then it kicks in and what the hell?.... slide guitar.
Awesome new sound for ACDC and this song rocks it's ass off
folks.
She Likes Rock N Roll keeps that vintage tone theme going. This
song may have the "dirtiest" lyrics on the entire Black Ice
album, if you know what Rock N Roll means ; ).
Money Made sounds so cool. Killer riff to start out then then
the song sets in and wham wow Brian sounds soooo freakin good.
This song reminds me of the Rockford Files. I don't know why,
maybe the tone says california and 70's so damn loud that I see
James Rockford getting his ass kicked for a dollar.
Rock N Roll Dream slows everything down with a wet vintage sound
and once again Brian although a little saturated sounds
excellent. Then chorus kicks ass, the lyrics rock and the
guitar sounds so killer. the best lick reminds me of the Have A
Drink On Me riff from the Back In Black album.
Rockin All The Way boasts yet another song with Rock in the
title. Are you starting to get the idea that Black Ice is a Rock
N Roll album? If you don't like old school rock forget about
Black Ice. If you like premium vintage sounding rock then you
better add Black Ice to your collection.
Black Ice finishes up with it's title tune, Black Ice. Black Ice
starts out with a super groovy guitar riff. It's a little more
groovy then you would expect from ACDC but it sounds killer. I
love the driving beat and chord changes. Once again Brian sounds
superb and Black Ice was a killer tune to use for the title
track. Premium funky groovy hard driving guitar work and killer
singing and once again that vintage sound. This could be a great
James Bond tune. I get this weird 70's spy show feel from the
song and well..... james Bond is once again very 70's.
ACDC went out of their way to capture a sweet yet raw vintage
tone for the Black Ice album. I think it's very flavorful. Some
may think it's a little too mild for ACDC but to me it has a
very "mature" ACDC sound. Black Ice is like a bottle of vintage
aged wine. If you are a true ACDC fan and have been for many
years you will likely be able to appreciate the "refined"
version of ACDC. Enjoy your wine with a little Black Ice!
