Lots of the slower groovier songs on
Powerage are excellent pieces of work. I'm glad to have ALL
these tunes in my ACDC collection.
I really think Powerage gets glossed over by many ACDC fans.
Another interesting thing to me is how so many claim that the
Bon Scott era is their favorite, yet so many don't even know
about Powerage. Don't let the cover art and the low price fool
you, there is a treasure of killer high quality Bon Scott era
tunes on Powerage.
Rock And Roll Damnation kicks the album off with a nice ringing
guitar sound, less distortion than the prior albums, clear
cutting yet hard driving. I like the sound achieved on this
track and the rest on this album as far as that goes.
Down Payment Blues is the second song and it slows things down
just a little which will become a common strategy used on the
second song on albums to come. This tune has a nice bluesy
guitar sound and Bon Scott tears up with some bluesy vocals
throughout the the song himself.
Gimme A Bullet keeps things on a fairly slow pace with a
basic head banging intro. The guitars still sound fairly crisp
yet smokin and Bon cranks out some beautiful vocals. This
another song I classify as ACDC Blues.
Riff Raff speeds things back up with a nice string bending
session after a somewhat basic intro. After the intro the song
kicks right into gear and Angus shreds on this real cool riff.
Once again Bon lays down more killer vocals to his ingenious
lyrics. This song just tears it up.
Sin City is an ACDC classic. You won't see an ACDC show where
they don't play this song.
What's Next To The Moon is one of my favorite ACDC songs. Bon
always had a way of being blunt yet subtle. What the hell is
next to the moon anyway? I'll tell ya, space is what's next to
the moon. I figured it out one day when I was pisssed at my
woman and listening to my Powerage cassette. CD's weren't around
yet.
Gone Shooting and Up To My Neck In You are good listeners all
the way through. Both have excellent guitar work, vocals and
lyrics.
Kicked In The Teeth finishes the album with a slow beginning
then a heavy riff kicks in. Bon had a tough life and this song
is practically a personal testification that sums up the fact.
The lyrics are pretty crazy and probably the least radio
friendly but ACDC never worried much about that in those days. |
