It's not over the top and in your
face like it used to be, it's mixed in a little more. It still
sounds excellent it's just a little more tame. So who tamed this
guitar playing lion? None other than Mutt Lange who has produced
some of the best selling albums of all time.
Pyromania, Highway To Hell, Back In Black, and even county
music. The man is a musical genius and practically becomes a
band member when he produces. I might add he is the member with
the final say. He is also notorious for making many takes on o a
single song to meet perfection. Sometimes this can take the
fresh sound out, but Mutt has a way of making up for it, the
proof's in the pudding.
You may also notice some guitar effects on this album that you
haven't heard on prior albums. Angus sounds pretty good with
effects and they didn't over do it any.
The title song, Highway To Hell starts out with the
unforgettable riff and the song kicks right in. An ACDC classic
that spurred the band one step from absolute success. This song
is a rocker and sets a new temporary sound for ACDC.
Girls Got
Rhythm slows things down again on the second song. It's a sweet
piece, the guitars sound primo, and Scott puts down some premium
vocals as usual. The sound is getting better than ever.
Walk All Over You starts out by keeping the slow pace and kicks
in after a bit of an intro. The sound quality doesn't falter one
bit. Cool sounding backing vocals are mixed in.
Touch Too Much is another slower tune but it certainly kicks
ass. The band sounds killer on this one.
Bon breaks out his extra crispy raspy voice for some antics on
Beating Around The Bush. It's a fun song with an interesting
beat.
Shot Down In Flames is another one of my favorite ACDC songs. I
always dug the way Angus makes his guitar say Rock And Roll on
this song.
Until this point If You Want Blood (You've Got It) was
just the name of a live album. It appears somebody wrote a
killer song and literally gave it a killer name.
Night Prowler is strangely the coolest final song on any ACDC
album. It starts with a sigh whispered into the microphone to
give an uneasy spooky feeling. The riff is awesome and the
entire song keeps you on your seat. Then it strangley ends with
Bon Scott saying "shazbot nanoo nanoo" which was a catch phrase
used by Robin Williams on the hit TV show Mork And Mindy. It
meant good bye. |
