Some fans had noticed Brian
Johnson's voice was loosing a little oomph. My theory is this;
after the extremely powerful "Flick Of The Switch" album ACDC
went on tour. I went to see the Flick Of The Switch tour but I
saw them on the first leg and Brian's voice seemed quite
healthy. I'm guessing later in the tour Brian may have damaged
his voice. Maybe a bad decision was made to push Brian to finish
the tour when he should have took a break and rested his voice,
who knows?
I do like Fly On The Wall for the most part. It's similar to For
Those About To Rock but with an even more saturated sound. The
guitar is dripping wet with condensation. The album offers a
different flavor but does lack a little color on some songs.
The title song seems off target here but the name must have been
the reasoning behind choosing Fly as the title track. The tune
itself seems a little average. I've often wondered why they
didn't name the album Sink The Pink because it was the best
song. I guess they didn't know which song would be the biggest
hit or didn't want the word "sink" on the title.
Shake Your Foundations gets up and starts across the floor with
a cool riff I-I-O and some angus signature guitar playing. This
could have been a cool Title Track also.
First Blood, the backing vocals are set louder than Brian
Johnson's vocals. Has Brian become a backing vocalist? The lead
solo is cool sounding. Listening to this tune brings me back to
the 80's right now.
Danger slows everything down a bit which follows the normal ACDC
album formula on the fourth song of side A. It's not a barn
burner but it has a cool sound and an interesting riff.
Don't Play With Girls has a bit of a Motley Crue sound to it.
When Brian's voice kicks in it's almost a little bit of a shock
I kind of expect a different singer to be there. The song has a
nice groove to it and it quite overlooked.
Stand Up starts out with a guitar fading in and then drives
along with an interesting vigor and rhythm. Definitely not a
slouch. This song has an "Australian" feel to it, maybe it's the
dripping saturation.
Send For The Man is the kind of song ACDC likes to finish an
album with. I have to admit they had had better album enders but
the song isn't bad. I like the lyrics and the unique lime juice
saturated sound.
