Angus's guitar is everything but watered down and muted and Brian
is belting out some of his best stuff here.
Flick Of The Switch's guitar riff's are full of tone and color
without the use of the special effects Mutt Lange seemed to be
so fond of. I can't say this with absolute certainty of course
as I wasn't there but the lack of a single guitar effect on the
entire album says plenty in itself. No spooky or eerie sound
effects,
no guitar effects and nothing but flat out unrestrained blasting
guitar is what this album is all about.
Malcolm Young stated that the band wanted to get back to basics
when they were recording Flick Of The Switch. When you get right
down to it that's exactly the same formula that brought ACDC to
the point before they were before they made Back In Black.
Take no freaking
prisoners, sonic guitar's exploding in sweet unison is exactly
what you get here. I honestly don't understand how any true ACDC
fan could dislike Flick Of The Switch. To me it's exactly what
I'd expect from ACDC and the old type sound with Brian singing
was and is an interesting change. New material is what we wanted
and new material is what ACDC delivered.
Rising Power is a great kick off song and from there the album
doesn't really let up. Nervous Shakedown and Deep In The Hole
slow things up a little bit but still sound hard core and ad a
couple nice slower yet spicy tunes to the track list.
The guitar work sounds fun on Deep In The Hole. The
sexual orientated lyrics are typical but have come to be
expected.
Guns For Hire is probably the
hardest rocking song on
Flick Of The Switch, a real head banger. Once again the lyrics
entertain the bad boy image Angus and the band loves to portray.
Landslide is quite an interesting and different song. Extremely
fast lyrics, licks and riffs make for a song that likely won't win
a catch phrase award but still is great to rock to none the
less. Lets not forget Brainshake for mercy sake, another fast
chorded head banging sonic blast.
Flick Of The Switch is probably ACDC's rawest, freshest sounding
album. Brian Johnson sounds primo and the band sounds refreshed
and very willing to rock their asses off. |
